Many lines and wrinkles are actually cause by contractions of the underlying muscles. This is especially true for the deep frown lines between eyes and also “crow’s feet” wrinkles.

Botox has been used to reduce such lines for many years. This medicine was originally developed and is still frequently used to help children who have “lazy eye” avoid surgery. A Canadian dermatologist popularized the use of Botox injections to improve the appearance of individuals — especially those who have a “cross” or angry appearance. We have used Botox not only for reduction of this angry appearance but also to soften the fine lines around the edges of the eyes. It has also, occasionally, been effective for reducing certain types of headaches.

The procedure itself takes only a few minutes. There is usually little or no ‘down time’. Discomfort is minimal — a very tiny needle is used to inject minute quantities of bacteria free Botox. Improvement may take several that is up to one week to become apparent. Results generally last three months up to one year. Repeat injections usually work a bit longer than the first one. After several injections the results may be semi — permanent.

We have been performing Botox injections for approximately 15 years. Lately we have tended to use Dysport which is a more recently approved form of botulinum protein and our experience has been very positive with this newer product with improvement that tends to last a bit longer than with the original botulinum formulation.
